Political Map
Functional: Below is a map of the rail system in Europe. It is a functional map because it exemplifies the united usage of a transportation system. The influence of the railway system may not necessarily diminish over a distance, but it does not extend around the entire world. The major stops are also located in specific regions that diminish into smaller, less significant stops as they extend away from these major areas. Vernacular: Even though Europe is easily referred to collectively, its Eastern and Western neighbors often distinguish each other, especially because of their different histories, culture, root language... etc. So generally they are referred to as Western and Eastern Europe, respectively. The Mediterranean is also another region that is referred to, however not only does it include Southern Europe, but parts of Northern Africa and a little into the Middle East. Central Europe is basically an overlap of Western and Eastern Europe, but these countries can depend on the perception of the person.
